Our Spiritual Foundation Patron

Blessed Mathew Talbot was born in dublin, Ireland in 1856 and died on 7th June, 1925. He came from a family of heavy drinkers and was an alcoholic by the age of 12. His determination to reform started one day when colleagues in the pub he used to frequent refused to buy him (and his brother) a drink. The humiliation made him seek counselling and confession from a priest who giuded him to full sobriety. From a terrible alcoholic who used to steal and sell personal belongings to maintain a destructive habit, he became a sober God fearing man. By the time he died on Sunday, 7th June 1925, on his way to mass, he was famous for his discipline, spirituality, charity to the poor and great concern for other alcoholics. A movement started in his parish to have him canonized. On 3rd October, 1975, Pope Paul VI declared Mathew Talbot- venerable or blessed. He is generally considered the official patron saint of those struggling with addiction and substance abuse.
